Pringle Homes & VELUX deliver a fresh take on executive properties

Northcote Park is a flagship development featuring 29 executive and 13 affordable homes. The vision for the development was to meet the needs of discerning home buyers seeking design-led new build homes of exceptional quality.

“We finished building the properties quicker, and at a lower cost.” “VELUX roof windows without doubt contributed to the desirability of the homes we built here at Northcote Park.”

The Challenge

Pringle Homes had a popular hallmark to their home designs, with a large open plan kitchen and dining area providing appeal to home buyers. They knew they needed to keep innovating to stay ahead of the competition, so envisioned a low level extension made entirely of glass. The problem was that this presented them with unfeasible buildability challenges and conflicts with building regulations.

The Solution

Pringle Homes brought in VELUX to carry out a Daylight Assessment, and this revealed that the fully glazed, fixed panel solution they’d envisioned would also be uncomfortably bright for the homeowner. VELUX worked closely with Pringle Homes to design a new extension with bifold doors and VELUX roof windows. Through the design process they realised that the roof windows delivered the most versatility in terms of control over natural light, heat, and ventilation, as well as being the most sustainable, energy efficient solution.

“VELUX has been an ideal partner to our development here in Northcote Park. The product is fantastic, the brand is well renowned, and the cost saving has really helped us. The support we received from VELUX has been fantastic too.”

The Results

The outcome of a design-led approach and close collaboration between Pringle Homes and VELUX is a highly desirable low density development that hit the spot with prospective buyers. VELUX ACTIVE kits that allowed automated opening and closing, as well as control of the blinds delivered a healthful, flexible option for homeowners. And last but by no means least, the solution enhanced the buildability of the homes, enabling them to be finished more quickly and cost effectively whilst retaining Pringle Homes’ commitment to a high end, quality finish throughout.

“The biggest element was the ability to ventilate the room effectively. All the controls mean we have complete control over the heat, light and fresh air in the room at any time of the year.” “You get a real connection with the outdoor space and so much versatility for the living space.”

Neil Evans, the homeowner
